Inferior Alveolar Nerve Injury

Prognosis:
Recovery is favorable since the nerve is protected within a bony canal and is therefore not subject to mobility. This is not the case with the lingual nerve.
Paresthesia which lasts over 8 weeks after the initial injury has a higher chance of becoming permanent.

I think I have permanent nerve damage from having a dental implant put in. I had the surgery back in Sept 2006. Its now Oct 2007 and the pain is only getting worse. I have pain, tingling and numbness in my lip and chin. When the weather gets colder outside, it seems to hurt worse. I am debating a lawsuit with the doctor who performed the surgery. Any suggestions? I am not concerned about money - I just want this repaired as soon as possible. Its affecting my smile and speech. Do you know of any cures for this? I would love to have feeling again in my face.

Hi there people. I just recently had an implant replace my 2nd molar. During the surgery i felt a shock when the dentist was pushing and placing the implant. I immediately noticed something was up and rang the the dentist who performed the surgery. On the same day he saw me and used one of his instruments to test if i had any feeling in the area which was of concern. He told me not to worry as he predicted that the novacaine was still wearing off. I was apprehensive however . I waited until the next day and still there was numbness, he referred me to a specialist at my local hospital and they took an x-ray. My suspicions and concerns proved to be right. A day after and the numbness is still present. My main concern as of now is there is no real feeling of paresthesia? There is just numbness. How far along do you have to be before there is tickly and burning sensations? One positive is that when the dentist used his pin to prod the area that is numb, there is definitely some feeling. The implant has been taken out as of now.
